How to find us

Glowing lava (today’s basalt) and rains of ash (today’s volcanic tuff) as well as olivine “bombs” tell of the dynamic development in the Styrian Volcanic Region. Fossils speak to us of earlier conditions of life: of a sea and its coasts, of subtropical bog forests and fluvial topographies.
Based on the Winkler-Hermaden collection, the exhibition gives an insight into the topographical changes of a dynamic region exuding (geological) history. Geo-Info Kapfenstein is a supplement to Geo-Trail Kapfenstein and is the starting point for a tour of places of geological interest in the Styrian Volcanic Region.
